A Most Curious Girl

Tosca

I was trying to get my flirt on the other day and the girl asked me how my classes were going. [I'm not in school this year, but] I told her I was thinking about a Minor in Finance. The reaction I got was instantaneous. She made this face as if she’d eaten a bug and went, “Eewwh, accounting!”

“No, Finance.” I said.

“Still..numbers, and money, and…it’s all so blah.”

I’m paraphrasing, of course, but suffice to say we probably won’t be dating anytime soon.

Still this convo brought to bare a question I’d never realized I’d ever think about. When’s the last time you ever heard about an accountant getting laid?

No, really? That’s a serious question.

But only because I believe (and I’m sure it’s more relevant because I’m at an age where I’m mature enough to comprehend that I’m only getting older) it’s part of an bigger issue at hand. We all want to find someone we click with and relate to, in a mate. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not bummed out we didn’t get to 3rd base or whatev, but I guess I never considered how much one’s job title or profession might factor into how we pick the people we choose to hook up with. I mean, let’s take this situation. She’s turned off at an ambition (not a finalized title or degree) and I’m a little less interested by her lack of interest.

Knowing this kinda feels like a realization that should’ve happened a long time ago, and it feels like a game-changer (for me at least). Because it’s not just staying on top of my game & keeping the general charm that makes D-2-da-A so lovable anymore. Now it’s also how my job may or may not represent me 10 years from now.

Quite a bit to maw over there…..
